Falling in love with fall

As the temperatures cool and the leaves start changing color, October Calendar Girl Claire Nation is happily celebrating her favorite season by choosing a pumpkin from Hale's Fall Harvest, located at 841 E. Hwy. 60 in Monett, to carve for Halloween. This Monett High School senior is the daughter of Beth and Robert Nation and sister to Doss.

Back in the good old days, Oct. 2-8

At the end of September 1942, an actress billed as Aunt Jemima herself (possibly Rosa Washington Riles) came to Monett on a nationwide tour for the Quaker Oaks company. She generated a bustling business at the Davis Brothers Market, where she served up ”her” famous hotcakes. Jennifer Autumn Cole

of Jennifer Autumn Cole, age 33, of Monett, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. Daughter of Kenneth and Margaret “Maggie” (Tudor) Cole, Jennifer was born on July 5, 1989, in Springfield. Jennifer enjoyed fishing and time spent outdoors, especially with her beloved dog Max, whom she loved like her own child. She was an artist at heart, drawing in her spare time. Jennifer loved the excitement of a roller coaster and listening to music. Jennifer was a dear soul who will be greatly missed by the many who knew and loved her. Monett Key Club aims to build school, community spirit

A long-standing Monett educator is leading students through various community service projects through the Kiwanis-sponsored organization Key Club. Amber Bledsoe, Key Club sponsor, said some of the projects students were undertaking included Trunk or Treat Day at school, Convoy of Hope, the annual Kiwanis Club Third Grade Party, notes of encouragement, building school pride and becoming good community service ambassadors.

Construction ramping up at Monett airport

The $9 million expansion project at the Monett Regional Airport ramps up to a new level in the first week of November as concrete work begins on the 6,001-foot runway under construction on the west portion of the property. Sierra Bravo, the southern Illinois-based construction company hired to move the major portion of earthwork for the new runway, wrapped up its effort as winter settled in last December.
