Lady Eagles’ athleticism shines

First-year Pierce City girls basketball coach Ragan Blinzler has a tough task on her hands — turning a young, athletic hoops squad into a future contender. A 2018 graduate of Pierce City and district champion that year, Blinzler knows the fortitude it takes to have a successful squad, and she’s hoping to build on the blocks of an underclassman-heavy team this season.

Top 10 2022

Monett celebrated the grand opening of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library Monday, Nov. 14. The new library project was an ongoing effort and has brought a modern, spacious facility to the community, complete with study areas for students, an inspiration kitchen and, of course, books and other media for community members to check-out.

BISHOFF: Lessons from 2022

The year 2022 turned into a series of unexpected learning experiences for me. Making it to retirement in 2020, I found these lessons all the more unexpected and not altogether welcome. But there they were, and like an impatient child, I had to listen to the voice saying “Deal with it!” much more than I liked. The year started with my wife, Julie, enduring a two-month hospitalization following what was supposed to be a simple high-tech surgery that came with complications. I learned rather quickly to appreciate company and little things, like being at home, away from distant hospitals, and not taking for granted a lot of things that come in a normal daily routine. I’m pleased to report Julie has mostly recovered and continues striving to achieve the “normal” level of comfort we haphazardly enjoyed before all of this.

Eagles play for 7th at Walnut Grove The Pierce City boys basketball team is working its way through the 16-team Walnut Grove Tournament, coming up with two wins and a loss through Wednesday. The No. 9 Eagles fell in their opener to No. 8 Niangua, 62-39, then earned a win in the consolation bracket over No. 16 Greenfield, 58-45. On Wednesday, the Eagles bested No. 12 Walnut Grove, 51-40. They faced No. 7 Morrisville in the 7th-place game Thursday, with results not available at presstime. Pierce City hits the road next, traveling to Lockwood on Jan. 3.
