Big deals at Bin Barn

Before opening Friday, the Bin Barn, located at 817 E. Highway 60 in Monett celebrated with a Monett Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting Wednesday, May 4. Present at the Ribbon Cutting were, from left, Elsa Porras, Robert Martell and Julie Vaughn of A-List Properties, Trevor Slalnder, Riley Wertz, Drew Malumber, Lindsay Holt, Tim Wertz, Chamber President Jeff Meredith and Donna Beckett. The Bin Barn employs five individuals who sort through weekly deliveries of returns and overstock from online vendors and big box stores. Pricing at Bin Barn works on a sliding scale, with the cost set at $10 per item on Friday, $9 on Saturday, with prices reducing to $5 on Monday, $3 on Tuesday and $1 on Wednesdays. Autism sensory gym plan presented

SENSORY GYM PROPOSAL Where: Pierce City Central Elementary What: Local advocates raising funds for sensory equipment to aid students diagnosed on the autism spectrum in further develop the skills needed to learn how to regulate their bodies A group of advocates presented information to members of the Pierce City School Board concerning the need for an autism sensory gym at the elementary school during the April meeting. Mel Brown, April Jones, Abby Osborn and Jennifer Allison reported the district has a need for a sensory room in order to give students on the autism spectrum the opportunity to develop skills to register, modulate and discriminate sensations received through the body’s sensory system receptor at an early age to learn purposeful, adaptive behaviors in response to stimuli.

Maryetta Ellen Ott, 86, of Mt. Vernon, died Friday, April 29, at the Mt. Vernon Place Care Center, in Mt. Vernon. A graveside service, under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, in Mt. Vernon, was held Tuesday, May 3, at the Mt. Vernon IOOF Cemetery.
