Dear Editor: In a time that we often hear of false election results, on behalf of the Lawrence County Democratic Committee, and I believe all voters, I want to thank Lawrence County Clerk, Tammy Riebe, the staff in her office, and the many volunteer election judges that keep our elections safe, provide accurate results, and protect the fundamental principal of voting rights in our democracy. Middle school baseball team repeats Big 8 title

The Monett Middle School baseball team won its second straight Big 8 championship this week. The Cubs defeated East Newton, 7-1, and Mt. Vernon, 8-0, in pool play on April 29 at North Park. In bracket play in Seneca on Tuesday, the Cubs beat Hollister in the semifinal, 3-2, then East Newton again in the championship, 5-3. Monett finishes the season at 11-2. Eighth-grade team members include: Miles Young, Collin Umfleet, Damon Mahurin, Truman Zinn, Carson Burtrum, Parker Doss, Antonio Vizcaino, Xavier Garcia, Logan Cole, Braden Cendroski, August Black, Edgar Mercado, Tyler Hickerson and Perry Azelton. Seventh-grade team members include: Aiden Rivera, Christopher Calhoun, Braiden Castor, Dylan Washick, Brayden Seitz, Samuel Carr, Uriah Riggs, Seth Denney, Ethan Meng and Joe Kelly. The team is coached by Jedd Anderson and Travis Stokes, and managers are Jay Garcia, Michelle Biadon and Mareli Hernandez. Contributed photo
