Monett school board candidates share views

The four candidates for three open three-year seats on the Monett R-1 BoardofEducationansweredquestions at a forum on March 21, hosted by the Monett Community Teachers Association. Two incumbents, Jared Wormington and Annie Smith, were joined by Ashley Bailey and Zoe Brink, giving prepared answered to questions generated from surveys sent to parents and teachers. Responses were limited on time and read.

Expectations set in Purdy

Lady Eagles bank on experience 2 years from state title A 2021 state title gave way to a year of youth and inexperience for the Purdy softball team, and the Lady Eagles are looking to use that 16-8 season as a springboard to another late-season run. Lori Videmschek, Purdy softball coach, said there’s nothing terribly unique about this year’s squad, and they know what competing in a winning program takes.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 28 at the United Methodist Church in Harrisonville. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 27 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society.

Ambulance district revises paid time off policy

The Barry-Lawrence Ambulance District board adopted new paid time off and uniform policies during the board’s March meeting, and heard about a major gift from the Monett Police Department that will save the district major money. With a vacancy for the District 6 board seat pending on writein votes from the pending April election, the meeting proceeded with a newly defined quorum of three, with David Compton and Glo Abramovitz present and Jeff Owens on a Zoom call.

Get out and vote April 4

Voters will take to the polls next Tuesday to decide the results of a number of local races and tax initiatives that will impact county and city residents. Both Lawrence and Barry county residents, as well as voters within the City of Monett will be deciding on a 3 percent sales tax proposal for the sale of adult use marijuana.
