Pierce City leaders discuss future projects

The shape of things to come dominated discussion during the February monthly meeting of the city council in Pierce City. Jennifer Keys, new city attorney with the Joplin law firm of Worton, Fisher and Lee, brought aldermen a 12-point condensation of changes in state laws that could impact city ordinances.

Heman named Chamber director

Local entrepreneur Brett Heman has been selected to serve as Monett’s new Chamber of Commerce director. While plans have not been finalized, Chamber Board Director Kellie Moreland said the chamber hopes to have Heman on board by March for the annual Chamber Awards Banquet.

A year ago, Monett girls wrestling coach Justin Smerad sat on a bus ride from Harrisonville for three hours in deep thought after the district wrestling tournament. His Lady Cubs had failed to qualify a single entry for the first time into the state wrestling tournament and the coach allowed some doubts to creep into his mind.
