Pipe rupture causes flooding at high school over Christmas Break

There was no “ho, ho, ho,” for several maintenance workers for the Monett School District on Christmas morning, as they were called to the high school to address a major flooding event caused by ruptured water pipes. “In the west hallway of the high school, every classroom, the library, the office and the gym were flooded,” said Steve Garner, director of operations at the school.

Candidates file for school board

Filings have closed for area school board candidates hoping to be elected in the upcoming April 4, 2023 municipal election, with contests developing in both Monett and Pierce City. For Monett R-1 School Board, three positions are on the ballot, two one-year seats, currently held by Annie Smith and Jared Wormington, and a three-year seat, currently held by Dr.
