Yesy Perez: Finding an identity, path home

Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 marks the National Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrating the contributions of Americans with ancestry leading back to Spain, Central America, South America and the Caribbean. The last few weeks have reminded me how exceptional our Hispanic traditions are. We are grateful to those who led the path in a prideful fashion. The Hispanic community takes this opportunity to showcase our culture and customs through festivals and local events. We witness the excitement the community receives from what we value the most.

Eagles nesting in Week 7

The Pierce City football team will stay nested today, spending time with family and friends instead of under the Friday night lights, as Agape Boarding School has canceled this week’s contest. Brad Hocker, Pierce City football coach, said the school called the game off about two weeks ago, and the district could not schedule another opponent.

Cubs come home

There are select times in football games when starting offenses and defenses are largely on the sidelines and there is an opportunity to make a play. The Monett football team has had success in that area this season with a pair of kickoff returns and a punt block, and the Cubs hope to create some special teams magic today on Homecoming against McDonald County.
