The Pierce City Senior Center will be serving lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Everyone is welcome and lunch is $5 for those ages 55 and older, and $6 for those under 55. Carry-out meals will be available to those who contact the center at 417-476-5006 before 10:30 a.m. Carry-out meals may be picked up between 11:30 a.m. and noon. Also, Nell’s Nails will be serving seniors for a nominal fee at 9 a.m. the first Thursday of each month. The Monett Senior Center is open for dinein lunches for a suggested donation of $3.50 for ages 60 and up. The price for those 59 and under is $6. The senior center will be open for dining from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Senior Center is also hosting BINGO every Wednesday at noon and Nell’s Nails will be serving seniors beginning at 9 a.m. the last Friday of each month. The Senior Center also hosts card games every Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. and aid for residents on Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and Food stamps. Call the Senior Center to schedule an appointment. The Ozark Festival Orchestra began rehearsals on Tuesday, Sept. 6, for its 43rd season, opening with its first concert on Sunday, Oct. 9. Rehearsals are at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Monett High School Performing Arts Center, 1 David Sippy Drive. Musicians are welcome to attend rehearsals and play in the orchestra, depending on ability and specific instruments needed for selections scheduled. Cubs fall in home opener

It took nearly 48 hours to complete, but when the dust settled, the Monett football team fell 14-6 to Mt. Vernon on Saturday. The game had been postponed from Thursday night due to inclement weather, and things began well for the Cubs (0-2), holding the Mountaineers on downs.

Second-half surge lifts Eagles

Senior quarterback Clayten O'Hara threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more as Pierce City topped Diamond, 34-13, on Friday. Nursing a 1-point lead to start the third quarter, Pierce City (1-1) came out of the locker room with a determination and quickly made a statement.

Cubs rain delayed to Saturday

The old college try was not good enough for the Monett football team, as Mother Nature twice forced postponements in Thursday’s contest to postpone the game. Action will resume Saturday at 7 p.m. Admission will be charged, and concessions will be limited.
