Johnson named MES AP

Delisa Johnson will be the new Monett Elementary School (MES) assistant principal in the 2024-25 School Year. Currently a reading interventionist at Benton Elementary in Neosho, she will replace the school’s current assistant principal, Heather Romine, who is taking over leadership of MES as the school’s principal next year.

Southern Styles offers more

Southern Styles has a new location. Originally located at 700 Broadway in the old gas station building, owner Amy Humes changed locations in mid-December and is now setting up shop in the building that previously housed Fulp Dry Cleaning.

Verona Homecoming

Verona High School presented their 2024 Homecoming Court on Friday, Feb. 2 during the Verona Wildcats game against the New Covenant Warriors. Chloe Lechner was named 2024 Homecoming Queen, and Andrew Martinez was named 2024 Homecoming King. Sophomore Joleigh Hargus was named Princess, and Sophomore Jacob Hinkle was named Prince. BACK IN THE GOOD OLD DAYS

• Two projects which seem to be at the top of the list in Monett’s post-war planning program are 1) a flood control plan for Kelly Creek and 2) construction of a new building which would house most of the Monett’s grade school children. A committee is looking at hiring an engineer to study flooding.

NEWS IN BRIEF

The Monett Lions Club is currently selling apple butter for $7 per pint. Lions apple butter is available at UMB, Coast to Coast, First State Bank and the Monett Historical Society. Proceeds from apple butter sales benefits the club’s community service projects, scholarships and donations to local organizations.
