Hartkopp accused of burglary

AMonettmanwhoallegedly robbed the Country Junction convenience store in Mt. Vernon on Sept. 19 was taken into custody and booked into the Lawrence County Jail on Friday, Oct. 20. Jerry Hartkopp, 61, faces charges of first degree burglary, stealing and first degree property damage.

Sales tax shows rebound in October

After a sluggish September quarterly report, sales tax revenues to local municipal and county governments shot up in October, improving prospects for an end-of-the-year upswing. Monett broke out of a four-month slide, something the city hasn’t seen since the economic downturn in 2009, with $223,286.50 generated by its two sales taxes for the general fund at a combined rate of 1 percent.
