Anderson gets five years

A Pierce City man was sentenced to prison time after pleading guilty to 18 counts of sexual misconduct involving a child under 15 and one count of tampering with electronic monitoring equipment. James Lee Anderson, 61, was sentenced to five years in prison for each count, with the sentences to run concurrently. Anderson also pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual misconduct, for each of which he was sentenced to 30 days in jail, with credit given for time served.

Attempted break-in

A Verona man was arrested and booked into the Lawrence County Jail in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 23 after he allegedly attempted to break into an occupied camper on the business loop in Mt. Vernon. Iram Porras, 36, is charged with attempted first-degree burglary, first-degree harassment and possession of a controlled substance.

Monett Museum looking for funds

Museum seeks $20,000 donation from City of Monett Volunteers with the Monett Historical Museum on Broadway is asking for a little help to keep local history alive and grow traffic at the Monett Museum. Randy Burke, a museum volunteer, addressed the Monett City Council in late July, asking if the city would consider making a $20,000 donation to help the museum cover some of its operating costs as it works to develop a couple flagship fundraisers that will keep the museum solvent in the coming years.
