It seems that the past few weeks in southwest Missouri have been a heartwrenching procession of tragedies. In recent weeks, we have seen traffic accidents claim the lives of too many beloved community members.

Catching catfish

Fishing for catfish has long been an activity that has provided angling excitement and excellent table fare. Individuals interested in learning more about how to catch these popular sportfish by alternative methods (trot line or some other type of set-line device) should plan to attend the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) program “Alternative Methods Catfishing Clinic.” This free two-day program will be June 23 and June 24 and will be taught by MDC Conservation Educator Lyle Whittaker in two segments.

Monett is one of 35 Missouri communities with a population of less than 10,000 people nominated for Voting began May 15 and will continue through July 15. The five communities receiving the most votes will be chosen for the showcase and will receive a short video about their community, an hour-long podcast and a feature in the bi-annual Humanities publication.
