Smith punches ticket to state track

Monett’s Vayla Smith set a personal record and also earned a state track and field championship berth with a second place finish in the 400-meter dash at the Class 4 Sectional in West Plains. “I am proud of the girls and the way they competed on Saturday,” said Kelly George, Monett coach, “Vayla will be going to state in the 400-meters.

Sales tax revenues continue to rise in May

Monett income jumps by 16 percent Sales tax revenues to bi-county cities and county government entities rallied for the eighth consecutive month, showing the boost in local shopping inspired by the pandemic shutdown that started in receipts from May of 2020 still has resilience. Since then, total sales tax revenues for the two counties combined has dropped only five times in 37 months, compared to the previous year.

Fire Protection District Grant

The Purdy Fire Protection District (PFPD) was awarded a $15,040 Fire Service Grant by the Missouri Department of Public Safety (MoDPS) last month. The grant was one of 428 grants, totaling $6.3 million, that MoDPS approved for law enforcement, fire service and EMS providers across the state to purchase new equipment, supplies and training.

Planning a dog park

Monett Main Street called a community meeting Thursday, May 11 to discuss the future and possible locations for the proposed Monett Dog Park. At the meeting, Bob Berger, who has helped spearhead the effort to raise money and construct a dog park in Monett, explained that the original dog park location, on Front Street directly east of the Jerry D.
