Ag conferences return to Monett

Agriculture conferences returned last week to Monett for the 52nd year, sponsored by the Monett Chamber of Commerce and the University of Missouri Extension Service. An annual tradition prior to the COVID pandemic, the events offered insights to aid local dairy and cattle producers.

BACK IN THE GOOD OLD DAYS

• A packed public meeting at the Marshall Hill school tackled the question of closing the school for grades one to six, or consolidate and send students by bus across town. The crowd voted unanimously to reduce the staff from three teachers to two and keep the school open.

Last week I had the privilege of heading over to Monett Elementary School for a big day of local youngsters, administrators and even the district’s maintenance team participating in an outside fun lesson.

Monett Tennis shuts out Nevada

The Monett tennis team rolled over Nevada on Thursday with a 9-0 victory winning every singles and doubles event. “Nevada is typically a pretty strong team, but we had our Senior Night before our match and we were ready to play,” said Brian Smith, Monett coach.

Monett resident faces Class C Felony

Jake Randolph Eubanks charged with stealing, vehicle tampering and robbery A Monett man is being held in the Barry County jail after he was charged with six crimes allegedly committed during three different incidents. Jake Randolph Eubanks, 21, faces one Class C felony count of stealing, two Class D felony counts of stealing, two counts of vehicle tampering and one count of robbery.

Pearce gets four years

Monett resident pleads guilty to sexual misconduct A Monett man was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of sexual misconduct with a child undertheageof15.Russell Pearce made the plea as part of an agreement with prosecutors Monday, April 10. In return for his guilty plea, one count of first-degree statutory sodomy was amended to the sexual misconduct charge, and another count of statutory sodomy was dismissed.
