The Monett Times wins 27 statewide awards

newspaper won 27 total awards, including four firstplace honors, at the Missouri Newspaper Association’s Better Newspaper Contest Lunch on Saturday at the Lodge of the Four Season in Osage Beach. Gold Cup winner in consecutive years in the small dailies division, The Times did not win the overall prize this year, as the Sedalia Democrat won with 25 total awards, but twice as many firsts.

Annual Trunk or Treat planned in Marionville

A The fourth annual Coleman Vault Family Trunk or Treat and Car Show has been planned for 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct.23,101NorthMarket Avenue in Marionville. The annual candy drive is underway now to provide treats in the event cars or vendors run out. The O’Reilly-sponsored car show doubles as a trunk or treat for the kiddos and costume contests will be held for all age groups. There will also be a beauty pageant for all age groups. A Pinup contest, Cake Walk, food trucks, games, vendor booths and drawings for prizes will also be featured. Proceeds from the event will be used for renovations to the downtown buildings in Marionville. For more information, call 417229-0167.

Back in the good old days, Sept. 21

Downtown parking in Monett was greatly enhanced on Sept. 28, 1962, when Mrs. M.E. Gillioz, on behalf of the M.E. Gillioz estate, presented the city with the deed to a tract of land at Sixth and Broadway, to be used for a free municipal parking lot. Carryout meals will be available to those who contact the center at 417-4765006 before 10:30 a.m. Carry-out meals may be picked up between 11:30 a.m. and noon. Also, Nell’s Nails will be serving seniors for a nominal fee at 9 a.m. the first Thursday of each month.
