The Pierce City Senior Center will be serving lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, Everyone is welcome and lunch is $5 for those ages 55 and older, and $6 for those under 55. Carry-out meals will be available to those who contact the center at 417-476-5006 before 10:30 a.m. Also, Nell’s Nails will be serving seniors for a nominal fee at 9 a.m. the first Thursday of each month.

Off on a summer adventure

The June Calendar Girl, Lesli Quiquivix, is off to Camp Barnabas where she will be working with staffers for several weeks this summer, as well as volunteering to mentor campers for another week. She has volunteered at the camp for the past four years, but this is the first time she will be working with staff. Camp Barnabas is a Christian organization dedicated to individuals with special needs. Lesli is the daughter of Paul and Theresa Swanson, and sister to Laura Hamilton, Dayna Swanson, Chad Swanson, Trevor Swanson, Emily Swanson, Marolyn Quiquivix-Swanson, Tiffynee Swanson and Thomas Quiquivix. She enjoys spending time with her dog, Luna, and cat, Xena, as well as practicing clarinet, reading, and making friendship bracelets. “I also love to go to the drive in movie theater in Aurora,” she said. Lesli was active with the Monett Marching/Concert Band and Jazz Band all four years of high school. Sales tax slows in May

SALES TAX IN MAY General trend: Big drop from May 2021 Monett: Collections down 14 percent For 2022: Most cities still ahead while Pierce City, Miller, Seligman down For the second time in three months, sales tax revenues to the bi-county area in May dropped compared to a year ago, a pattern repeated from the beginning of 2020 before the pandemic surge in local sales drove revenues to unprecedented heights. The latest figures showed an overall dip of 26 percent from last May, the biggest drop since May 2015.

MONETT TENNIS Record: 9-3 Last result: 5-1 loss to Logan-Rogersville in the state round of 16 More: Athletic team helped in growth The Monett boys tennis team has celebrated its second consecutive district title fittingly, and now the athletes have turned their attention to next season and repeating again. Jason Smith, Monett tennis coach, said over the course of the season, the team played more and more consistently, and smarter.

Poynter takes 7th at Class 4 state meet

MONETT TRACK What: Class 4 State Championship Who: Konner Poynter and Vayla Smith Results: Poynter medals in 400-meter Two Monett athletes competed in the Class 4 State Championship Friday and Saturday, with one bringing home a medal. Junior Konner Poynter took seventh place in the 400-meter dash, running the race in 51.51 in the finals after a 50.83 in the prelims.

Athletes reel in honors

Spring sports in 2022 are in the books, and the postseason honor rolls are being unfurled. Local baseball, softball and soccer players have been recognized by their schools’ respective conferences and districts, and Pierce City’s teams were the most recognized.
