Field Day offers ag insights (10/08/12)
Innovations and strategies for success in agriculture under stressed conditions were focuses of the 50th annual Field Day at the University of Missouri's Southwest Research Center near Mt. Vernon. Around 2,800 students from 58 high schools toured the center on the previous day. On the public field day, it rained for the first time in 13 years. Freistatt board passes cross-contamination ordinance (10/08/12)
The Freistatt Village Board of Trustees passed a comprehensive ordinance concerning management of its water system during the September board meeting. The 16-page ordinance, with appendixes, was provided by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Water operator Alan Obermann said the main purpose was to make sure no abandoned wells were hooked into the water system. Septic system grant program winding down (10/08/12)
The Shoal Creek Watershed Improvement Group has grant funds available for a limited time for repair, replacement or pumping services needed to correct failing septic systems. "Eligible landowner costs-share for septic pumping or repair or replacement of a home sewage treatment system ranges from 50 to 75 percent," said Drew Holt, project coordinator with the Elk River and Shoal Creek watersheds. ...
