Sales tax receipts rebound in October (11/01/10)
Sales tax revenues in the bi-county area rebounded in October after falling below 2009 numbers in September. All but three towns received higher income than a year ago. Monett's sales tax income has been higher in four of the preceding six months and returned to that pattern in October. The city's two sales taxes for the general fund generated $131,715.79, up $11,123.35 over last October. The gain made up more than half the red ink from September...

Ten hurt in weekend vehicle crashes (11/01/10)
Four people from Mt. Vernon were hurt in a single vehicle crash at 5:15 p.m. on Sunday. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Garrett Richardson, 18, of Mt. Vernon, was driving north on Farm Road 1040 three miles northwest of Stotts City. Richardson's 2001 Pontiac traveled off the left side of the roadway. Richardson over-corrected, traveling off the right side of the road, where the car overturned...

While the Wheaton Lady Bulldogs held off Sparta by two points, 27-29, to earn a district championship, one point separated the Southwest boys from their first cross country district title since 2005.
