Lessons from the past still ring true today

EAR ABBY: Years ago, I sat over lunch, reading your mom’s “Definition of Maturity.” It was shortly after my dad died, and reading it made me realize how lucky I had been. Those were all lessons I learned at home from my parents.

Remembering the heroes

I have long called the Monett Chamber of Commerce’s annual membership meeting the most important night of the year in town. Like no other event, it brings together Monett’s most important business and civic leaders. These days I’m inclined to call it Monett’s happiest night, for it marks a celebration of those who have worked to build this community.

OSHA reduces fines on Verona chemical plant

BCP Ingredients in Verona will pay more than $200,125 in fines to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for violations of regulations protecting the safety of employees. The announcement, made on March 4, marked a $193,67 reduction in fines levied on July 5, 2023.

BarCo Youth Camp to be held at end of May

The 59th annual Barry County Youth Camp will be held at Camp Smokey in Roaring River State Park from May 28 through May 31 this year. The camp, offered for free to qualifying children, will feature a number of outdoor activities, including swimming, crafts, games and more.

An uncharted path for Missouri’s legislature

Missouri’s Senate is heading into uncharted territory that could disrupt the legislative process for the remaining months of this year’s session. It involves a deep split among Senate Republicans by members of a new national conservative organization who are challenging Missouri GOP Senate leaders.
