Drury workshop gives students hands-on marketing experience

Sitting in a basement classroom in the building that houses the Drury University campus in Monett, two teams of business students each met with a local business owner on the evening of Thursday, March 28, engagedinback-and-forth discussions about the businesses and their owners’ goals for them. While it may have appeared that the students were simply engaged in friendly discussion with the business owners, they were actually collecting ideas for a marketing project in which they were going to promote the businesses to the public.

Purdy showcase highlight different cultures

Victor Nung, 14 and Ban Kung, 14, represent the Chin culture, of Burma, wearing traditional clothing of Chin culture during the Purdy Cultural Showcase on Thursday, March 14. The showcase featured displays highlighting the cultures of the Chin, Mexican, Hmong and Guatemalan people, who are all found in Purdy. The event also included fashion shows and traditional dances. BACK IN THE GOOD OLD DAYS

April 28-May 4, 1944 • The Monett Junior Chamber of Commerce walked off the highest honors at the state convention in Jefferson City. They tied for first place for outstanding athletic promotion, won first place for the largest delegation, a trophy for miscellaneous activities and second place in youth welfare promotion.

While you weren’t looking, the world changed

Economic development specialists cite a measurement for towns called its pull power, the strength to pull in customers from the surrounding area to shop in that town. In northwest Missouri on Highway 35 sits Bethany, which has one of the strongest pull powers in the state. Why? Mostly because there are very few towns with significant markets anywhere near there. You have to go to Bethany to shop.
