Monett sees third drop in four months The magic of the pandemic surge in sales tax seems to be wearing off, according to indicators in June receipts to bi-county towns and government bodies. While receipts for the second quarter of 2023 show revenues kept growing over last year, more than half the cities took in less in June than in 2022.

A grant for funds to replace the Gibbs Street Bridge, which crosses Clear Creek in Pierce City’s South Park, was one of the topics of discussion during the Pierce City Council meeting on Monday, June 12, at city hall. City Clerk Julie Johnson told the council that they had applied for the grant on Friday, June 9 in the amount of $613,800, the cost of the project.

The Barry-Lawrence County Ambulance District (BLCAD) Board of directors voted to send a $26,000 debt, owed to them by the now-defunct Bentonview Park Health and Rehabilitation, to collections during their meeting on Wednesday, June 21. Prior to the vote, Paula Flory, office manager for the ambulance district, said that they had been unable to secure payment from Bentonview on the debt.

Foster homes needed for shelter dogs

Community members are being asked to step up and possibly save a life this month as the Monett Animal Shelter is at capacity and community members are needed to foster some of the homeless dogs. The Monett Animal Shelter has the capacity to house 10 dogs.

But can you explain why my husband and I shouldn’t take advantage of credit card points for travel expenses that are required for work but will be reimbursed by the employer? – Cathy Dear Cathy, So, your employer is so poor they require you to advance them for your travel? You do understand if your employer decides not to pay you one month — for whatever reason — that it’s your credit card and your debt, right? Even if this hasn’t happened yet, you’re exposed to the risk.

Pierce City is searching for food trucks to participate in its Food Truck Friday event Friday, July 28. The event will feature free swimming from 4 to 8 p.m. Anyone who would like to set up their food truck is invited to call 417-476-2323 to reserve a space. There is no charge for food trucks to set up at the event.
