MDC Owl Prowl in Joplin

Because of owls’ nocturnal lifestyles and their hunting of mice, rats and other rodents that can be pests for humans, these night-time birds are a fascinating and beneficial part of Missouri’s outdoors. will host its first meeting of 2023 from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at the new library in Monett. Doors open at 6 p.m. with food and drink (no alcohol) for all. A tour of the library will take place at 6:30 p.m., and the meeting gets underway at 7 p.m. There is still time to donate to the 2022 fourth quarter winner, the Monett Barry-Lawrence County Library Youth Collection. The donation window continues through Saturday, Jan. 21. Donations will receive a 50 percent matching funds grant for this quarter. For every $100 donated, an additional $50 will be added.

Ernest James Forbes

Ernest James Forbes, age 68, of Monett, Missouri passed away Friday, January 20, 2023 at Mercy Hospital Cassville in Cassville, Missouri. He was born May 19, 1954 in Paw Paw, Michigan the son of Ernest Edward and Mabel Louise (Allen) Forbes, who preceded him in death.
