Monett to keep bus routes as is

School bus routes in the Monett R-1 School District will continue the same as usual, the Monett Board of Education decided during their meeting on Thursday, May 18. The board discussed the possibility of altering bussing service, but ultimately decided against doing so due to concerns that attendance might go down among students whose parents work extralong hours.

School Board members receive advanced certification

Monett School Board members Annie Smith and Ken Gaspar have earned their Advanced Board Member Certifications from the Missouri School Boards’ Association. The board member certification program established by the MSBA recognizes school board members who choose to complete additional professional development requirements beyond the 18.5 hours of training required by the Outstanding Schools Act of 1993 for new board members.

Walker honored at board meeting

A long-time school volunteer was honored for his service during the Pierce City School Board meeting on Wed., May 24. Daniel Walker, who is leaving the district, was recognized by the board for his five years of service at Pierce City High School, where he has assisted Band Instructor Bobbie Adams.

Students present Capstone Showcase

Students in the GO CAPS Monett (Greater Ozarks Centers for Advanced Professional Studies) program exhibited their capstone projects at the Mission Innovation Capstone Showcase at the Monett City Park Casino on Wednesday, April 26. Forty-seven projects, representing the efforts made by approximately 50 students (some worked in teams) were on display in the building, covering a wide range of topics including controlled prairie burns, voter registration, and the history of Monett schools.
