Dear editor, Who do our councilmen think they are using our taxpayer money for things we never get asked about? Meetings are held during hours no one can attend because most of us are at work. Why aren’t meetings held at time where the public can attend in the evenings – especially for a project that many of us deserve to be heard on? Perhaps they don’t want to listen to us even though we voted for them! So how does it work for the co-called little guy who has been doing business loyally in Monett for 75 years with the business being handed down from generation to generation (Wellbaum’s)? Does the city simply offer a price for the property a first time? If rejected, do they make a second offer? If that is rejected (Can’t blame a business owner for simply not wanting to sell his property, can you?), then does the city, by law, take over as “Imminent domain” and pay whatever the law prescribes and walk all over the original owner? Not sure how that works, but it just doesn’t seem justifiable.
