Blevins captured in Wyoming

One of the three Barry County jail escapees was apprehended on Wednesday, more than 750 miles away from Cassville. Danny Boyd, Barry County sheriff, said after Christopher Blevins, of Golden; Lance Stephens, of Washburn; and Matthew Crawford, of Springfield, escaped the jail, a flat bedGMC was stolen from a home on Highway Y. That vehicle was recovered in Salina, Kan., and it was suspected Blevins had driven it there, ditched it and stole another.

Verona joins hazard mitigation plan

Verona has joined Lawrence County and virtually every municipality and school district within the county in accepting the Lawrence County Multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. The purpose of hazard mitigation is to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property from hazards. Lawrence County and participating jurisdictions and school/special districts developed this multi-jurisdictional local hazard mitigation plan update to reduce future losses from hazard events to the county and its communities and school/special districts.

Family advocate attending prestigious training

A Monett resident, foster parent and educator through Family Advocates Solutions has been accepted into a prestigious training program slated for September in Tennessee. Kathy Haddock will attend Trust Based Relational Interventions (TBRI), a research-based program from Texas Christian University’s Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development, which was created as a way to care for children who have experienced trauma.

The Pierce City Senior Center will be serving lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Everyone is welcome and lunch is $5 for those ages 55 and older, and $6 for those under 55. Carry-out meals will be available to those who contact the center at 417-476-5006 before 10:30 a.m. Also, Nell’s Nails will be serving seniors for a nominal fee at 9 a.m. the first Thursday of each month.
