Aug. 28-Sept. 3, 1942 • Mayor V.B. Hall issued a proclamation asking Monettans to offer a Salute to Our Heroes at 9 p.m. on Sept 1, all coming to attention and “give three rousing cheers for our fighting Americans.” He asked for participation in businesses, theaters, homes and on streets

EIGHTY YEARS AGO Aug. 7-13, 1942 • George Ryden, new Monett High School principal, in town with his family for a week, said he has been impressed with the town, its neatness, well-developed park, well-kept churches and numerous civic buildings.
