A five-win season for the Monett girls soccer program is on the lower end of the scale, but the Lady Cubs emerged late in the season to score 7 goals in the district tournament. Monett had been held to no goals in its last four regularseason games, but Lady Cubs Coach Neal Bluel said when it was crunch time, his team raised the bar.

The Class 4 Sectional 3 track and field meet on Monday did not go aw smoothly as the Monett track teams hoped, but two athletes managed to move on to state. Postponed from May 21 due to weather, Kelley George, Monett girls track coach, said the situation was tough.

The Monett football team will have three representatives at the 21st Sertoma GRIN IRON CLASSIC football game, set for June 3 at Glendale High School. The rosters for the all-star game were recently released, and local selections were Ethan Umfleet, Corbin McCully and Harrison Merriman.

Freshman Jaxon Bailey led the Cubs yet again this season, posting a two-day score of 147 (72, 75) to tie for sixth place individually.

It’s a tough draw to face a s stateranked baseball team in the semifinals of the in the Class 4, District 11 Tournament, and Monett fought this week to stay alive, but could not muster the runs to overtake Aurora.

The Monett girls track team soaked in the summer heat on Saturday, making them hot enough on the track to advance five events to the sectional round. At the Class 4, District 6 meet in Carl Junction, Vayla Smith was the best overall finisher, taking first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.57.
