Early season apple butter

Monett Lion Tom Carroll takes a look at cooking apple butter on Thursday. The Monett Lions Club is getting an early jump on its apple butter efforts this year due to a change in the apples the club purchased. Carroll said the apples the club purchased this year have a preservative in them, which means the club cannot use their traditional copper pots to make their popular apple butter. They have one aluminum pot, and plan to use it each week for the next 12 weeks to make sure they have enough apple butter to meet demand this fall.j Mike Gervais/ mgnews@monett-times.com
