Monett’s Alexander McNair Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution recently honored Kaitlyn Schumacher with the Excellence in Journalism Award. The award was presented in a special meeting held on Tuesday, June 14. Schumacher, a native on Monett, is currently a multimedia journalist for KY3 and often appears on their local news and Ozark events broadcasts. This is the first Excellence in Journalism Award presented by the chapter. “We are so proud of our local news reporter,” said Regent Maella Blalock. “She is the hometown girl with a heart for serving our community.” Kaitlyn worked as a student reported for The Monett Times in high school. Schumacher competed as a SkillsUSA member and won the National Championship in Broadcast News Production and was a Television Production national qualifier. When she wasn’t at the YMCA coaching and teaching, she and her sister, Stephanie, were entertaining audiences with their ukulele duets. Schumacher holds a Bachelors Degree in Journalism and a Masters Degree in Communications from Drury University. She is also a volunteer with the American Heart Association, Community Blood Center of the Ozarks and area community theaters. “We are so proud of Ms. Schumacher and are equally proud to be honoring her in this way,” Blalock said. “Our whole chapter sends her our best wishes for continued success in the big world of journalism.” Pictured, from left, are: Blalock, Schumacher, and Michelle Goodson, DAR member chair.
