First United Methodist Church is now offering free round-trip Sunday morning van transportation within Monett. To make a reservation, call Kathie at 417-235-8286.

The Pierce City Senior Citizens is open Tuesdays and Thursdays serving lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m. The cost is $5 for those ages 55 and older and $6 for those under 55. Anyone who wishes to purchase a carry-out meal can call 417-476-5006 before 10:30 a.m. and pick their meal up between 11:30 a.m. and noon. Also, on the first Thursday of each month, Nell’s Nails will be serving seniors for a nominal fee at about 9 a.m.

The Monett Senior Center is open for dine-in lunches for a suggested donation of $3.50 for ages 60 and up. Price for those 59 and under is $6. The senior center will be open for dining from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Senior Center is also hosting morning coffee at 9 a.m. Fridays and Nell’s Nails will be serving seniors beginning at 9 a.m. the last Friday of each month. The Senior Center also hosts card games every Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. and BINGO following lunch every Wednesday.

First Presbyterian of Monett will be offering two worship services for Christmas this year. In addition to the standard Christmas Eve service of Lessons and Carols at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24, there will also be a Blue Christmas service at 7 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 21. The Blue Christmas service is for those who are grieving or for other reasons find Christmas celebrations more difficult. It is a more somber service of lament and hope held on the longest night of the year. Any who are finding celebration challenging this year or who desire to hear more of the hope of the Christmas season are welcome to attend.

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, located at the intersection of 6th and Benton streets in Monett, will have a Christmas Eve Day Holy Communion service celebrated by the Rev. Angeline Tharakan at 11:00 AM Friday, Dec. 24. All are welcome. 

The Linn Thornton Christmas Dinner will be held as a drive-though only event at United Methodist Church located at 1600 N. Central Ave. in Monet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 25. For more information, contact Leta Thornton at 417-489-2614.

Purdy High School will crown its 2022 Homecoming Queen at a special coronation between JV and Varsity boys’ basketball games on Friday, Jan. 14. The JV contest versus Sparta begins at 6 p.m. This year’s Homecoming theme is “The Purdy Homecoming Olympics.” 

Purdy Elementary’s audition choir, The Eagle Echoes, will host a special concert on Thursday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Admission is free. The choir will perform selections they have been preparing for their Jan. 27 performance at the Missouri Music Educators Association Festival in Lake of the Ozarks. The Eagle Echoes perform under the direction of Christina Harmon.
