Lady Cubs pick up district win

The Monett girls tennis team (3-9) earned a close district win on Thursday, a 5-4 decision over Reeds Spring at home. “This is a great win for us,” said Jason Smith, Monett tennis coach. “Reeds Spring is ranked higher in our district seeding. [Thursday] was our senior night, and Sofia Semerad and Meagan Hull both won their doubles and singles. Deleny Rueda played the best she has played all year, winning her singles match, 8-3. Vayla Smith also had a really close match — she won playing smart tennis.” Monett played in individual districts on Friday in Mt Vernon, with results not available at presstime. The Lady Cubs play in Team Districts on Monday against Aurora, who they defeated 6-3 earlier this season. Results against Reeds Spring include:

2. Sofia Semerad won 8-2 over Madison Sieg

3. Deleny Rueda won 8-3 over Madison Langston

4. Vayla Smith won 8-6 over Rylie Lacy

5. Valery Moncivaiz lost 0-8 to Fralynn Frederick-Patten

6. Jocelyn Hernandadez  lost 1-8 to Victoria Brakhane


1. Hull/Semerad won 8-3 over Brown/Langston

2. Rueda/Hernandez lost 0-8 to Sieg/Brakhane

3. Smith/Emma Parrigon lost 5-8 to Lacy/Frederick-Patten

Middle schoolers run at Lamar Invitational

The Monett Middle School cross country team raced in the Lamar Invitational on Tuesday, with one Lady Cub cracking the top five. Results include:
