Personal records overflow in Nixa

It was a banner day for the Monett cross country program at the Riann Lubinski Invitational met in Nixa on Tuesday. Nine of the program’s 11 total runners set person bests, and another recorded a season best. “It was great weather for a meet,” said Kelly George, Monett cross country coach. “We set several personal records and season best times. I challenged the team to get out of their comfort zone. I am proud of our kids for pushing through and setting new records.” Full results include:

Lady Cubs fall to Mt. Vernon

The Monett girls tennis team fell on Thursday to Mt. Vernon in dual action, 9-0. “We knew Mt Vernon was going to be a tough match because they are ranked No. 1 in our district,” said Jason Smith, Monett tennis coach. “We played well but could not win a lot of the deuce points. Meagan Hull had a tough loss, losing 8-5. We need to improve on our consistency and being aggressive at the net, so we have some things to work on in practice next week before districts.” Monett is now 2-7 on the season. Monett middle school team bests Cassville

The 7th grade volleyball A team got its second win of the season against Cassville in three sets, 27-25, 18-25 and 16-14. Peyton Brandt led with 5 service aces, Kylee Holloway added two and Addie Deffendall and Lily Ruiz each added one. The 7th grade B team lost its set to Cassville, 13-25. The 8th grade A team got its first win of the season against Cassville in 2 sets, 25-13 and 25-7. Carsyn Goetz led with 8 service aces and 3 kills. Addy Brownlee added 6 aces, and Meredith Merriman had 4 kills. The 8th grade B team split its sets against Cassville, 22-25 and 25-22. Jocelyn Arreola-Duran had 8 aces, and Lilly Hale added 5 more.
