The Monett girls tennis team (1-4) won its first dual of the season on Wednesday, 8-1 over Neosho. “We played really well,” said Jason Smith, Monett tennis coach. “We were more consistent and played smart. Deleny Rueda and Jocelyn Hernandez won their No. 2 doubles match in a tiebreaker 9-8 (7-5). They started strong with a 3 -0 lead in the tiebreaker. Rueda and Hernandez served really well to secure the doubles win. This is a great win for morale and confidence.” The victory came a day after an 8-1 loss to Clever. “Meagan Hull showed her mental toughness by winning her singles match, 8-4,” Smith said. “She was playing smart tennis, moving her opponent around the court. The team never had any momentum in their matches. The team played hard but just seemed off. I told the team to have a short term memory, and I told them to keep fighting and be ready to battle against Neosho.”
