Cubs wallop Wildcats, 15-2
Four hits on four plate appearances from Josh Wallace helped lead the Monett baseball team (8-9) past Cassville on Thursday, 15-2. Wallace doubled in the first, singled in the second, singled in the third and singled in the fourth. Cassville scored first, opening the game with a triple and a single to score the run. Monett knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the first inning, when Wallace doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. Monett pulled away for good with 6 runs in the second inning. In the second, an error scored one run for Monett, Tanner Wright drew a walk, scoring one run, Wallace singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs and Daniel Geiss singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs. Estin McBroom led the Cubs to victory on the pitcher's mound. The righty lasted five innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out ten and walking zero. On Tuesday, Monett fell to Logan-Rogersville, 11-7. Jason Garner led with 3 hits, and Doss Nation had 2 RBI. Marcus Young pitched 4.1 innings, striking out 6. The Cubs stay home on Monday, hosting Bolivar at 4:30 p.m.
Schallert throws perfect game in win over Southwest
Lauren Schallert pitched her way to a perfect game for the Purdy softball team (23-1) in an 18-0 win over Southwest on Tuesday. Schallert pitched five innings, striking out 11 batters and holding the Lady Trojans to no hits or walks. She also led the team in hits with 3 and had 3 RBI. Robyn Schad led the Lady Eagles in RBI with 4. Purdy’s starts district tournament play on Monday as the No. 1 seed in Class 1, District 5. The Lady Eagles face No. 8 Wheaton on Monday at 3 p.m in Miller.
Purdy baseball bests Spokane, 16-1
Five runs batted in from Osiel Aldava helped lead Purdy (11-5) past Spokane 16-1 on Tuesday. Aldava drove in runs on a single in the first, a stolen base in the second, a single in the third and a home run in the fourth. The Eagles scored 5 runs in the fourth inning, with Clay Henderson and Aldava driving in runs. Jake Brown was the winning pitcher for Purdy, allowing 3 hits and 1 run over four innings, striking out 1 and walking zero. Purdy racked up 15 hits on the day. Aldava and Brown each collected three hits to lead Purdy.
Lady Wildcats shut out Billings
Paige Bauer didn't allow a single run as Verona (5-11) defeated Billings 1-0 on Thursday. Bauer went all seven innings and allowed just one hit, striking out 16. Yoselin Martinez and Bauer had one hit each to lead the Lady Wildcats. Verona didn't commit a single error in the field. Grace Nelson had 16 chances in the field, the most on the team. Verona begins play in the Class 1, District 5 Tournament on Monday as the No. 7 seed, facing No. 2 Exeter at 6 p.m. in Miller.
Lady Eagles No. 3 in district tourney
The Pierce City softball team (14-5) earned the No. 3 seed in the Class 2, District 5 tournament. The Lady Eagles will face Southwest on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Clever High School. The winner will face the winner of No. 2 East Newton and No. 7 Spokane. No. 1 Diamond will face the winner of No. 5 Clever and No. 5 Marionville in the other semifinal, both of which are scheduled for Tuesday. The championship is Thursday at 5 p.m. at Clever High School.
Kaiser leads Drury golfers at GLVC Championship
The Drury Panthers finished seventh at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship after the third and final round was completed on Monday at the Fox Run Golf Club in Eureka. Clayton Kaiser led Drury and finished in the GLVC's top 20, as the sophomore from Monett tied for 14th with a +11, 227 (71-79-77). The Panthers shot 926 and 62-over-par to finish 31 shots off of the cut for the top four.
