Fire destroys 3 outbuildings

A late afternoon fire on Highway 37 in Pierce City resulted in the loss of three outbuildings. The call for firefighters went out at about 5:50 p.m., with Pierce City Fire Protection responding to the scene at Velten Machinery, 3847 Hwy. 37. Ed Velten said the fire originated in a building where old rabbit cages were stored. The fire was discovered by resident Cathy Velten when she arrived home from visiting relatives, who indicated she had no idea of how the fire could have started.
