Lucille Edna Avondet, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 while at Lacoba Homes of Monett, MO.
Lucille was born May 7th, 1925 in Verona, MO the daughter of Alfred A. Anderson and Mary Catherine (Schirmer) Anderson. Lucille was a graduate of Monett High School and Monett Junior College. After graduation, she was employed at Gillioz Bank of Monett. She was a member of Waldensian Presbyterian Church and served as church treasurer for 25 years, an Elder and a Deacon, with her latest office being the treasurer for the Waldensian Cemetery board leaving that position in 2018. She served the local American Red Cross as treasurer for 25 years.
On September 29, 1945 in Galena, KS, Lucille Anderson and Edward H. Avondet were united in marriage. He preceded her in death on August 28, 2003. Through the years, Lucille worked with Ed as a farmer and a bookkeeper for the family farm. Also, preceding her in death were her parents, a young sister, Mary, her oldest son, Terry Edward, and son-in-law, Alan Rhea.
Lucille is survived by her son, Don Avondet and wife Brucene, of Joplin, MO; son, Doug Avondet of Monett; and daughter, Debra Rhea of Kearney, MO; four grandchildren referred to Lucille as “GG”, Dondi Avondet, Dustin (Kim) Avondet, Richie (Traci) Rhea, and AJ (Kristi) Rhea. She dearly loved her nine great-grandchildren, Hayley, Steven, Gracie, Addison, Kellen, Riley, Brady, Tenley & Kason. Her family also includes Mary Sweeney and David Klopfer; along with many Avondet family nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Lucille’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2020 at the Waldensian Presbyterian Church. Services will be outdoors and all are invited to bring a lawn chair. Reverend Randy Crane will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Waldensian Cemetery Fund.
Lucille’s family with the upmost gratitude wishes to thank the administrators, nurses and staff of Lacoba Homes for their love, care and support to their mother for the past 20 months. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
