Arthur J. Fyr, age 89, of Monett, Mo., went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday evening, April 15, 2015 while at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Mo.
Art was born on Aug. 26, 1925 in Monett, son of the late Arthur E. Fyr and Mary Ethel (Griffith) Fyr. Following his graduation, Art enlisted in the United States Navy. He was inducted at the Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, Mo. on Oct. 26, 1943. He served his country honorably and was discharged on April 25, 1946. For many years, Art worked for Mid-America Dairymen Inc. in Monett, retiring as a Shift Manager. Art was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Men's Brotherhood and the American Legion Post #91.
On Jan. 12, 1952, Arthur Fyr and Elaine Taylor were united in marriage. They made their home in Monett and were blessed with over sixty years together. Survivors include his nephews, Arthur David Van Amber, Donald Van Amber and Ronald Van Amber; his nieces, Judy Etter, Norma Duncan, Helen Storer, Adline Bartkoski, Mary Schad and Nellie Morris.
Art was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Fyr; his brother, Ernest Fyr; three sisters, Mary Ruth Van Amber, Clara Mae Fyr and Adline Hayward.
Funeral services for Mr. Fyr will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Monett with Reverend Paul Lanning officiating. Interment and military honors will be at the Zion Cemetery north of Aurora. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the First United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions are requested to Loaves and Fishes in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home.
