No one injured after propane tanks explode

An explosion Monday afternoon leveled a building behind the home of Eleanor Stephens, approximately three miles west of Monett on Farm Road 2001.

Neighbors reported the explosion at 2:39 p.m. on Monday. Propane and acetylene tanks in the building continued to explode after firefighters arrived, sending a large plume of smoke into the air.

The Pierce City Fire District, Monett City and Monett Rural firefighters responded to the scene and were hampered due to low water supplies after fighting the fire at the Church of Monett for the previous hour.

Additional tankers from Monett Rural and the Purdy Fire Districts re-supplied firefighters to resume their efforts.

No one was hurt in the explosion or in the fire.
