Carthage- Joplin Regional Stockyards: Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 05/19/2014

Tuesday, May 20, 2014

Receipts: 6499 Last Week: 5511 Year Ago: 6125

Compared to last week, feeder cattle and calves weighing over 400 lbs sold
steady to 3.00 higher with the exception of many larger groups of 700-850 lb
yearling steers which traded 6.00-9.00 higher with help from northern interests.
All pee-wee calves under 400 lbs sold 7.00-10.00 higher with little regard for
quality. Prices moved progressively higher throughout the supply that was much
heavier than expected, with a big day-run of cattle and no sale next week.
Monday's CME fall feeder cattle futures contracts were up the limit, and
yearlings are sure to be short locally this fall with droves of calves currently
moving into vertically integrated systems. Supply included 55 percent steers,
40 percent heifers, and 5 percent feeder bulls. Near 42 percent of the run
weighed over 600 lbs.

**Note: Joplin Regional Stockyards will be closed next Monday, May 26th in
observance of the Memorial Day holiday and the Best of the Best Calf Roping*
