Kaci Pfaff, training specialist at EFCO, a Pella Company, recently presented a check in the amount of $250 to Laura Triplett, Monett High School Spanish Teacher, who was named Teacher of the Month for October.
"What I like most about teaching is getting to see kids discover and learn," said Laura Triplett, who was named the EFCO's Teacher of the Month for October. She was honored with a check for $250 and a special plaque. The funds can be used in her classroom.
"I love being there for the kids when they need me, because I think it's important they graduate from school with a positive view of their school experience."
Triplett has been teaching for 22 years, 16 of those in Monett.
"I go to Mexico for a month every summer to keep up my Spanish," Triplett said.
"One of my favorite activities is walking around the classroom with examples of work by Picasso and Dali and watching the kids as they discover different things in the paintings," Triplett said. "The look of discovery other faces is priceless."
Triplett credits her high school superintendent for encouraging her to finish college.
"He actually hired a sub for a year to keep the position open for me so I could finish my studies," Triplett said. "I worked three waitressing jobs to put myself through college and drove 200 miles round trip to attend and graduate from Missouri State University.
"I have always wanted to be a teacher and I am so glad I fulfilled that dream. I love when my former students come back to visit and are proud to share their accomplishments with me. I see all the things my students have accomplished and the wonderful adults they have become and I realize how lucky I am to have crossed paths with each one of them, if only for a short while."
In her free time, Triplett enjoys traveling, reading, cooking and crocheting.
EFCO and The Monett Times co-sponsor the Teacher of the Monet program. Any public or private school teacher who teaches kindergarten through 12th grade in Monett, Purdy, Verona, Pierce City or Freistatt is eligible for the award. Students, parents or fellow educators can make nominations.
