Dorcas Ladies Aid
The Dorcas Ladies Aid, gathered for their December 2012 meeting in the fellowship hall of Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt. Judy Lehde, president, welcomed 13 members in attendance, along with Pastor Ryan Buchmueller.
Doris Meyer gave the worship and program based on the Epiphany, a Christian feast day that celebrates the revelation of God the Son as a human being in Jesus Christ. Meyer gave a short biography of the authors of the Epiphany songs that were sung, accompanied by Nadine Obermann, pianist.
Judy Krueger conducted the mite box ingathering. The mites benefitted the Open Arms Child Care program, which received a $65,000 grant from the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML).
Krueger reported 12 baptisms in 2012.
Following the business meeting, correspondence and committee reports, Evelyn Bracht, altar committee, told members there is one Sunday in July still needing someone to volunteer to set up communion.
Bracht also reported the organization's scrapbook is up-to-date.
The Christian growth focus for January is the prayer service.
Lena Bremer, missions committee, reported 15 quilts sent to Pastor Gary Lampe. The Mission Committee planned to meet to set up the 2013 schedule.
Members were reminded of the Jan. 6 Epiphany service in Aurora, and the Bible Institute scheduled for Jan. 13, 20 and 27 in Monett. Lehde, Obermann, and Dorothy Osterloh volunteered to take cookies or snacks for the Jan. 20 event.
It was reported a baptismal napkin had been made for Adela Caroline Mattlage. Ethel Helmkamp gave a booklet, card and bookmark to the parents of Adela.
The birthday song was sung for Osterloh and Obermann collected stamps from the narthex, [the lobby area, located at the end of the nave].
Carolers sang to many local shut-ins in December 2012.
The committee for the Esther Barber memorial luncheon included Alice Helmkamp, chairman, Karen Kleiboeker, Shirley Stanford and Bonnie Worm. Blake Stanford and Hershel Worm assisted. A total of 35 people were served.
Those serving the memorial dinner for Laura Aufdembrink included Meyer, Linda Jelinek, Ruth Nelson, Sandy Voskamp, Kim Moennig, Cheryl and Merlin Bracht, Janice Koenemann, Orville Meyer and Dan Haines. A total of 80 people sere served.
Lehde announced January is the 92nd anniversary of the formation of the Ladies' Aid.
Hostesses for the month were Helmkamp and Krueger. The meeting closed with members singing "The Star Proclaimed the King is Here."
