Wrecks leave five injured

A Pierce City man was seriously injured on Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Route PP at County Farm Road 2220.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Joshua P. Stacy, 31, was airlifted to Cox South Hospital in Springfield with serious injuries after his vehicle was struck broadside by a 1997 Lincoln Continental driven by Victor A. Gutierrez, 26, of Verona.

Gutierrez was not injured in the crash, which occurred at 7:19 a.m.

Other traffic crashes

* Two Cassville residents were hurt in a one-vehicle crash on Highway 37 one mile south of Cassville on Saturday afternoon. Jennifer L. Wilson, 33, a passenger in a vehicle driven by Richard C. Morgan, 25, was taken to Cox South Hospital in Springfield with serious injuries. Morgan suffered minor injuries in the crash but refused treatment at the scene. The crash occurred when Morgan was attempting to slow down in his 1967 Pontiac Tempest to make a right turn and his brakes locked up. The vehicle skidded clockwise and overturned off the rightside of the roadway. The Patrol report indicated that both Morgan and Wilson were wearing their seat belts.

* A crash on Interstate 44 eight miles west of Mt. Vernon left a Centertown woman with serious injuries. According to the Patrol, Fern M. Scott, 65, was airlifted to Cox South Hospital in Springfield. Scott was a passenger in the 2006 Cadillac Escalade driven by Susan E. Brenneman, 68, of Burlington, La., who was taken to Cox South with moderate injuries. The two were injured when Brenneman lost control of her vehicle when the trailer she was pulling began to fishtail. The Escalade overturned onto the interstate.
