Penalties and turnovers cost Pierce City against McAuley (High School Sports ~ 10/04/11)
One hundred and twenty five yards of penalties and two interceptions proved too much for the Pierce City Eagles (4-2) to overcome in a 32-30 loss Friday night to the McAuley Warriors (3-4). The kick returner seemed to be corralled at the seven, but a couple of nifty moves and he broke free for 83 yards to the Eagles' nine-yard line. The next play was a nine-yard run for a touchdown. Cubs take fourth in Willard (High School Sports ~ 10/04/11)
The Monett Cubs soccer team took fourth place in the six-team field at Willard this weekend. On Thursday, Monett defeated New Covenant 4-2. "We came out very slow and quickly found ourselves in a 0-2 hole less than 10 minutes into the game," said Monett coach Dan Janssen. "We were able to regroup and claw our way back to a 2-2 tie at halftime. Our play improved the second half, and we were able to keep them off the scoreboard by possessing the ball and some defensive adjustments."...
