Cubs run state XC course

The Monett cross country team ran two meets last week, setting new personal records at each. “I know the kids were excited to run at Gans Creek in Columbia because it is also the state course,” said Kelly George, Monett cross country coach. “We ran against schools from all over the state, and it was good for us to run against kids we may see in November. I am really proud of our kids for getting out of their comfort zone and improving their times and our team scores.”

Lady Cubs fall to College Heights, Webb City

The Monett girls tennis team (2-9) fell in a pair of contests in the last week, 8-1 to College Heights and 9-0 to Webb City. “[Against College Heights] We did not have enough players because of homecoming events,” said Jason Smith, Monett tennis coach. “We had to default on No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles. Sofia played up a spot and won her singles match.” Against Webb City, Smith said the Lady Cubs struggled to gain any momentum. “Meagan Hull and Vayla Smith had close singles and doubles matches,” he said. “Vayla is a freshman that continues to improve. She competes really hard and has come a long way from the beginning of the season. Her athleticism is really helping her catch on to tennis.”
