Sue Ann Childress

Sue Ann Childress, 82, of Monett, Mo., passed from this life to her eternal home in Heaven on Tuesday morning, February 16, 2021, at Aurora Nursing Center, Aurora, Mo., with her children by her side.

Sue was born on May 10, 1938 in Aurora, Mo., daughter of the late Frank Russell Robbins and Ella Nancy (Hilton) Robbins. Sue graduated from Monett High School with the Class of 1956, and then attended cosmetology school. For over thirty-nine years, Sue owned and operated Sue’s Beauty Shop and also the Diet Center for over twenty-seven years. At the age of thirteen, Sue developed a passion for playing the piano. She became an accomplished pianist, playing for over sixty-plus years, accompanying numerous singers and playing for countless venues of all types.

Sue was a faithful member of New Site Baptist Church. She lived out God’s Word every day. She enjoyed her Bible studies and was also a member of the Monett Garden Club.

On September 30, 1956, in Monett, Sue Robbins and Earl Childress were united in marriage. To this union, they were blessed with three children.

Sue is survived by her husband, Earl; one daughter, Mendy Hubbard (Alan) of Aurora; two sons, Dennis Childress (Beverly) and Doug Childress (Susan) all of Monett; seven grandchildren, Emily Bossert, Allison Deckard-Hubbard (Wesley), Jared Childress, Matthew Childress, Nicholas Childress, Michael Childress and Sarah Childress; one great-granddaughter, Alla Bossert; one sister, Charlotte Waggoner (David); as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Sue was preceded in death by one brother, Russell Robbins; and three sisters, MaryLou Hillhouse, Barb Bushnell and Joy Robbins.

A private funeral service is being held with plans for a public Celebration of Sue’s life to be held at a later date. Friends are invited to share an online condolence at In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions have been suggested to benefit the music ministry at New Site Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
