Salvation Army red kettles will not be available in Monett this year. Because the Salvation Army gives 90 percent of its proceeds from these kettles to Crosslines in Monett, in lieu of placing money in a kettle, area residents are asked to consider making a financial gift to Crosslines by sending a check, payable to: “Crosslines” at 510 E. Cleveland Avenue, Monett, MO 65708.

The annual Christmas Candlelight Service at First Congregational United Christian Church in Pierce City has been canceled due to ongoing COVID concerns.

Pam Robertson has been named as Lawrence County’s Interim Recorder of Deeds until Governor Mike Parsons appoints a replacement to fill the remainder of the term held by the late Gary Emerson.

Old Town Pharmacy is now a testing site for COVID-19. The site offers two types, the rapid test for active COVID-19, and a COVID-19 antigen test, to determine if an individual has had the virus in the past but has recovered. No appointments are necessary. All tests will be administered by drive through. For more information, call 417-635-1100.

Jack Henry and Associates announced Wednesday its Board of Directors declared a regular quarterly cash dividend of $.43 per share. The cash dividend on its common stock, par value $.01 per share, is payable on Dec. 22 to stockholders of record as of Dec. 2. As of Nov. 12, there were 76,317,581 shares of common stock outstanding.

Just in time for the upcoming holidays, Monett Lions are once again offering their famous homemade Apple Butter for sale. As the club’s main fundraiser, this annual project enables members to provide numerous sponsorships, scholarships, and charitable gifts for the Monett community and surrounding area. Lions legendary work with vision, hearing, and diabetes is also supported through proceeds from this decades-old sales project. Lions Apple Butter can be purchased from any Lion or by contacting Club President, Linda Dohmen, at 417-235-6281. Pints are $6.00 and half-pints are $3.50.

Purdy High School Music Department presents, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” Friday, November 20 and Saturday, November 21. Performances begin each evening at 7 p.m. in the Purdy Performing Arts Center. Masks will be required for attendees when entering and exiting the facility and when social distancing cannot be maintained. Please visit the district Facebook page for ticket information.

American Legion Post #419 in Freistatt will host a benefit chill dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Ernte Fest building in Freistatt. Proceeds will benefit a gravestone project honoring Benjamin Allen, who served in Col. Metcalf’s Regiment of the 45th infantry in the War of 1812. Allen, born in 1779, was laid to rest in June of 1847, at Lee Cemetery in Verona.

Monett Rural Fire Department will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Fire Station No. 1 on County Road.

The Festival of Lights opens at Monett’s South Park on Nov. 25 and will continue through Jan. 4, 2021. Donations to help offset costs for lighting will be accepted at the Elf Hut, adjacent to the soccer fields, at the end of the drive-through display.

The annual Turkey Trot 1 mile fun run/walk or 5K run, hosted by First United Methodist Church in Monett, will kick off at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 26 at the church. All races will occur in rain, snow, or sun. The course is a fairly flat, rolled, wide grassy trail on church property. This year’s event will benefit the Monett Community Kitchen and Pantry and the Monett Ministerial Association Grant Award Fund. The 10th annual Pierce City Thanksgiving Pilgrims 5K Run/1 mile walk will kick off at 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 26 at the bandstand, 112 E. Commercial St. in Pierce City. Registration opens at 6:45 a.m. Proceeds will benefit the Food for Thought Backpack Program. Cost is $20 by Nov. 8, and $25 the day of the event. The back pack program depends solely on local gifts and donations from individuals, organizations and churches to meet the needs of providing food for the children. During the 2019-2020 school year the school went to a 4-day week schedule. The program picked up the additional day by providing meals for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Nine meals a week are sent home with 58 children each weekend.
