Public memorial for Moreland on Saturday
Russ Moreland Memorial Fund established
The Monett school district will host a public memorial service in honor of the late Monett Superintendent Russ Moreland.
The service honoring Moreland's life will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Burl Fowler Stadium.
In addition to the public memorial, Moreland’s family will hold a private service at a later date, and cards may be sent to Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett. The family has established the Russ Moreland Memorial Fund to benefit future education needs. In lieu of flowers, donations to the fund may be made at http://cfozarks.org/moreland.
“Moreland loved his job and always strived to ensure everyone's opinions were heard,” a statement from the district said. “In the most challenging times, he put students, staff and the community first. He inspired us to be better, led with his heart and made sure we knew how proud he was to work with us. He inspired students to follow their dreams and reach their maximum potential in life. He was always present, and now his absence is deeply felt.
“Mr. Moreland was full of ideas to make school fun. He sang for us, made music videos and introduced Moose into our life. We were eager to have a snow day, because we knew we would hear a snow day jingle at 5:30 a.m., followed by a Moose social media post.”
The district said Moreland has forever touched the hearts of those within the school district and the united community.
“We will remember him as a caring, humble, and loving leader,” the statement said. “As you talk with your children about loss, please continue reassuring them that a caring team is here to surround them.”
Resources are being offered by the district to help provide information and guidance on grief. They may be found here: https://www.monettschools.org/article/341024.
