Highway Patrol investigating Aurora homicide
Remains of body positively identified
A set of skeletal remains found in May 2019 have been positively identified as those of Jason Lee Artrip, 36, of Aurora.
The remains were discovered in the area of Elliott and Delta. No clothing, jewelry or personal items were discovered at the time.
“Mr. Artrip was never reported missing to this office,” said Aurora/Marionville Police Chief Richard Witthuhn. “The cause of death is undetermined, but we are treating it as a homicide.”
Witthuhn said there were barely enough remains to obtain a positive DNA identification.
“They were scattered,” he said. “At the time of discovery, we were unable to identify a cause of death.”
Artrip was reported missing from the Springfield area on Jan. 1, 2013.
The case has subsequently been turned over to the Missouri State Highway Patrol for investigation.
Anyone having information on the case is asked to call the Barry-Lawrence Chapter of Crime Stoppers at 1-888-635-TIPS (8477).
