Frances Janette Smith, 84, of Monett, Mo., died on Tuesday, October 6, 2020. She finally went home to be with Jesus, a trip that all who knew her, knew she was ready to make. The family is rejoicing as she and her husband Charles will be celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary in Heaven. She departed this earth at her home in Monett, from a brief illness.
Janette was born in Springfield, Mo., on August 24, 1936, the only child born to Francis Ershal Medlin and Bonnie May (Lee) Medlin. Her family later moved to Purdy, Mo., and it was there where she grew up, and later graduated from Purdy High School. She was set up on a date with Charles and soon they fell in love, and so the story began. Following their marriage on October 8, 1955, they moved to Arkansas briefly while Charles was in the United States Army. After living in California and Oklahoma, they made their home in Monett, where in 1967, in their garage, Charles and Janette started a small machine shop, which grew until they purchased a building on 1st Street that became C&J Machine Shop. They operated the business till the Lord called him home on June 24, 2014. Janette was a member of the Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church in Purdy for several years. It was at that little white church in the country that she and Charles were married and where he sat in May of 2014 and listened to their last sermon here on Earth together. Now, as she always told us, she is “walking on the streets of gold”, hearing the most amazing stories and sermons from her Father. To all that knew her, knew she was a wonderful Wife, Mother and Grandmother.
Janette is survived by her children, David C. Smith, Donny S. Smith and Veronica L. Hoyer and husband Darrell, all of Monett; three grandchildren, Jade Ashley Chairez and husband Riel, Jalynn Leigh Harner and Ashlynn Reigh Harner, all of Monett. She loved them and enjoyed every minute that she had with them. She will be greatly missed by family in the Oklahoma area, who they were all very close and nearly the same age, Nonie Burns, Pauline Johnson and Barbara Williams. She rarely missed activities that her grandchildren participated in.
Janette was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Bonnie Medlin; and her husband, Charles Smith.
Graveside service for Mrs. Smith will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2020, at the Bethel Cemetery, south of Monett. Reverend Lee Neill will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Buchanan Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church.
